I won't be that person who tries to speak for every gaming household, but I was raised on the grounds of gaming is the opportunity to spend quality time with friends and loved ones. I choose to recognize National Video Game Day because ever since I was a little girl I've been a gamer.
I can take it back to as far as the late 90's when Nintendo introduced couch play games like Super Mario Kart, Gradius, Mortal Kombat and so much more. In my teens, strategy, fps, rpgs and open world games became my favorite genres. Games like Zelda, Crash Bandicoot, and Final Fantasy practically raised me. I love challenging play-throughs and when games like Halo launched it was just pure enjoyment.
Halo for example, was our main go to for spending quality time as a family. Usually it was me, my Dad, brother and cousins. Like you don't understand this was the prime of split screen fps in multiplayer. Also of course we can't forget about ongoing fight titles such as Super Street fighter and Super Smash Bros.
I don't know who told these podcasters or anti-gaming enthusiasts that gaming servers no purpose life and is a gateway to mental illnesses! Don't get me wrong, I'm not completely dismissing the fact that some people are not effected mentally by long term gaming but those are singular cases and should not be the bias for everyone who chooses to pick up a game controller. What separates most of us gamers is that we use it as a form of bonding with others or entertainment. Nothing beats turning on a PC or console after a long day of work. #NationalVideoGameDay
